project snapshot

Syndell built a UK live music sustainability platform on Node.js and Laravel, with native Android and iOS apps giving organizers, artists, and fans separate entry points into the same carbon-reduction toolkit. Live since June 2023, addressing an industry-wide gap in sustainable event practices and tools.

overview

A sustainable live music platform in the United Kingdom

A UK live music sustainability platform asked Syndell to close a genuine gap in the industry: organizers, artists, and fans each had a stake in reducing live music's carbon footprint, but no shared tools or place to act on it together. Syndell has run this engagement since June 2023, building web application development, mobile application development, UI/UX design, and QA testing into one platform.

the challenge

What A sustainable live music platform in the United Kingdom needed to solve

The barriers were part technology and part behavior: getting an industry with little existing sustainability tooling to adopt something new, across three different stakeholder groups at once.

  • 01

Overcoming resistance or hesitation in embracing new NFC-based contact sharing technology

  • 02

Tackling a general lack of knowledge and tools for sustainable event practices

  • 03

Overcoming collaboration difficulties between event organizers, artists, and fans

  • 04

Bridging the gap in understanding sustainable practices within the live music sector

  • 05

Combating a lack of awareness among industry players about their ecological footprint

  • 06

Overcoming a scarcity of eco-friendly choices for event planning and execution

the solution

What did Syndell build for A sustainable live music platform in the United Kingdom?

Syndell built the platform on Node.js and Laravel, with native Android and iOS apps and a WordPress-powered site, so each stakeholder group had a direct path into the same sustainability toolkit.

  • A tool for event organizers to estimate and understand the environmental impact of their events

  • A platform for finding eco-friendly suppliers, promoting sustainable choices in event planning

  • A searchable database to identify venues with environmentally friendly practices

  • Carbon offsetting program integration for neutralizing event emissions

  • Resources for organizers to create and manage sustainable event plans

  • Resources for artists and bands to minimize the environmental impact of touring

  • A discovery layer for fans to find and attend sustainable live music events

what this means for you

If your sustainability or industry-wide product depends on multiple stakeholder groups adopting it together, your platform needs a reason for each group to open it, not just one. Your organizers, your creators, and your end users all need their own entry point, the way this build gives each one.

why it worked

This platform is a reminder that adoption, not just features, is often the real challenge in a sustainability product: the tools only matter if organizers, artists, and fans all have a reason to use them. Building a distinct entry point for each group -- an impact estimator for organizers, touring resources for artists, a discovery feed for fans -- gave the platform a foothold with every stakeholder instead of betting everything on one audience adopting it first.

This project drew on Syndell's mobile app development practice. Source case study reviewed on the live Syndell site at syndelltech.com.

Questions about this project

01

Why is stakeholder adoption a bigger challenge than technology for a sustainability app?

This platform faced resistance to new technology and a general lack of sustainability tools across the live music industry, which is why Syndell built a separate entry point for organizers, artists, and fans rather than a single generic tool.

02

How does the platform estimate environmental impact for live events?

It includes a dedicated tool for event organizers to estimate and understand the environmental impact of their events, connected to a searchable eco-friendly venue and supplier database.

03

Can artists reduce the environmental impact of touring using this platform?

Yes. Syndell built dedicated resources for artists and bands specifically to help minimize the environmental impact of touring.

04

What platforms does this live music sustainability app run on?

Native Android and iOS apps plus a WordPress-powered website, built on Node.js and Laravel, giving organizers, artists, and fans access from wherever they already are.
